“1919” is made using the traditional German kräusening, or double-fermentation technique, which cleans up beer flavours, naturally carbonates the beer, and gives it better head retention. “1919” is made with premium Canadian malts and specialty Franco-Belges malts to give it unique characteristics.
Brewers Gold, the heirloom hop that bestows its unique flavour and aroma, was developed in 1919 through open pollination of a wild Manitoban hop with an unknown English hop. Brewers Gold was the first commercially available hop and its progeny are some of the most popular in craft brewing. Not just an easy drinking Belgian Pale Ale, “1919” is also an homage to the Winnipeg General Strike.
